Hierarchy and layout

Thunmails

For the Hierarchy and Layout exercise I started by producing thumbnails of my 140/140 layout. Whilst doing this I was looking at the alignments I could make in the layout to make it interesting and give it a sense of hierarchy. I choose to have the layout revolve around the title in the thumbnails. To give the layout a visual aspected of hierarchy I choose to use two different pen of different thickness to signify this. I then moved onto to look at the land scape layout I found for space this was more of a challenge in finding the balance of content on the thumbnails. I choose to have the content in the thumbnails on a strate layout to make the alignments clear and to build a strong hierarchy on the layout. With the portrait layout I choose to have a look at having the content on the thumbnails descending so it gave the reader some interest on the page.

I found after the feedback session my previous thumbnail layout needed improving in how the content aligned on the pages and how the content is placed on the pages. I started by look over the 140/140 layouts and plucking out thumbnails that had pertencils I also added some knew designs to the layout sheet. To give my 140/140 I choose to added in orange hanging lines to make the structure of the layout clear and how it may look on screen. I then moved to look at the landscape thumbnails I choose to change having the content on state and precise style. To having the content like the title on angels and the body text revolve around it. I choose to do this to added interest to the layout and to utilize the negative space. I then moved onto update my portrait layouts. whilst changing the layouts I choose to place the titles on an angel to give interest to the layout and to utilizes the negative space on the pages to give then more balances.

140 by 140

In the Hierarchy and layout brief we were given type restrictions on how we could have are type to look. For the 140/140 I choose to follow the restriction of have the type in one size along side using it its related boled to be used were I see fit. The elements on the layouts I choose to place in it related boled was the titel and the main detail of the event which are the key elements on the layout from my point of view. I placed the type size on nine point type as i thought it was a respectable size for the body text and the bold elements on the layout were still visadel. Out of the designs I find the strongest in terms of placement and alignment is the forthe design on the the pages. I choose to develop this layout to work on the hierarchy on the layout.

Portrait

I found the type restriction was open to playing with the type and there was a lot more freedom this layout. For the type restriction I had to uses one type face with the text in as many sizes as seen fit. I think this is were there was more freedom to look at the hierarchy on the the layouts. I placed the the header in 30 point type with the event details in 17 point type along side the body type in 9 point. I felt these were all respectable size of type in the hierarchy and had a good balance to then. I choose to place the body text in a two column structure as it gave me a perfect word count. I found have the layout in a descending style work well for the structure and layout hierarchy. I found my strongest design I did was the forth one as i found the structure worked well and the hierarchy was clear. I think i could look at making more one piece rathen the two piece as at the moment I feel there is a divide on the pages between the head/detail and body text.

Landscape

The type faces restriction I had on this layout was I had to uses two types faces, each in two differnt sizes. I choose to uses a sans and sheriff type face to added style and contrast on the layout. I used the sans type face for the body text. As I thought it set well when I printed it out I placed the body text in nine point type as i thouhgt it was a respectadel size in the hierarchy order. I placed the header in a sheriff type as I thought it would make it more eye catching. I placed the header in 40 pointe as i thought it would signerfy it place in the hierarchy. I find of the layouts I did for the landscape the forth design I did is probadly the strongest besign I would be devloping it further. Looking at the placment to bring it together make it one peace not so much two peaces.

final Portrait layout

I found for my final portrait layout design had to make quite a bit of a channge to how it was aranged on the page as the previels structure wasnt work as one structur it gave it more of a look of two structural layouts. I started by clearing the pages and starting at the top working down the page on place the content. I choose to place the word crime at the top of the pages on a level surface with the rest of the head on a decending pathe. I did this with the body text as well as with the event details. I think how I changes the layout created a stronger structer to the layout and theres more intreste to the layout on how it rolls out down the pages. For the size of the body text columes I used a three coloume withwide colume for the body text to get the word count on the mark.

final 140 by 140 layout

I found my final design of the 140/140 layout work well with the hierarchy layout. For the size of the text I placed it all in 9 point text as I thought this was a respectable size as well for the type restrictions it work perfect in boiled as it was still viserbal. For the body text I added 11 points of leading to give it some breathing space between the lines. I then looked at the elements I had in boiled frome the previles versions. I placed the deateils of the event and the head in boled to sigmefy there place in the hierarchy on the pages. I choose to sentrelive the content and aligm the details with the body text to create a srog structure on the pages. I placed the head in the top right corn leveling it with the top of the body text with the word live hanging down the side of the body text.

final Landscape
layout

For the final landscape layout I choose to look back at some thumdnails of the layout for elements I could use to bring the layout together as one peice instaed of it being two pieces of text. I started by placeing the body text in to a two colume stucture to get the right word count. I then moved to look at how the header was placed in the structure and how I could make it fit more materaily on the pages. I choose to have the word crime adove the body text with the rest of the titel folowing down the page. I choose to place the detail of the event along side the word crime and live to full megative space and to create a sense of balance on the pages. The only issue I find I have with my fianl outcome looking back I think useing justfyed type for the body text dosent realy work.
